In looking at office furniture desk prices are likely to range anywhere from one hundred to two thousand dollars. Why the huge disparity? Well, for one thing quality of desk construction varies greatly. The main area of this variance is based upon whether not real wood is used as opposed to particleboard. And even where particleboard is used it is usually covered with high grade Formica or a quality wood veneer.
Most cheap office furniture uses what amounts to basically being printed paper as its desktop surface. This paper is coated with durable plastic finishes and in all truth will last for quite some time but it may not be part of the image you hope to project. When purchasing office furniture, desk top construction is the most important factor to consider. Fully 95% of all executive office desks will still be created using a particleboard top. So make sure that top is at least 1 1/8 inch thick. And make sure it is covered with either a quality plastic coating for a high tech office or a real wood veneer for executive suites in professions such as the law or banking.
